This is the single most common thing patients moving from the shopping centre precinct mention, and it sounds trivial until you have spent fifteen minutes circling with a toothache.

We are not a walk-in clinic, so turning up unannounced is a gamble — you may wait a long time or be sent away. If something hurts, phone us instead. We hold emergency time each day and a call at 8:00am usually gets you seen the same day, which is a far better outcome than sitting in our waiting room hoping. For anything routine, book ahead.

A routine check-up and clean is scheduled around 45 minutes, longer for a first visit that includes a full history and x-rays. Fillings vary with size and number. We book realistic times rather than compressing appointments, which is also why we tend to start on time. If you have a hard stop, tell us at the desk when you arrive and we will let you know whether it fits before we begin.

Yes, for routine appointments — there is a booking link on this site and it shows genuine availability. The exception is pain. Online booking only shows scheduled slots, whereas emergency time is allocated by phone, so if something hurts you will be seen sooner by calling (08) 9401 8060.

Usually, but not automatically, and the interval should reflect your gums rather than the calendar. Patients with healthy gums and light build-up genuinely do fine at six months. Patients with periodontal disease often need three or four monthly maintenance, and stretching that out is how stable gum disease becomes unstable. Occasionally we will examine someone and tell them their mouth does not need a clean this visit. We will tell you which category you are in after we have looked.

Bleeding during a clean tells us where the inflammation is, so it is useful information rather than a sign we are being rough. What matters is whether it also happens at home. Gums that bleed every time you brush are inflamed, almost always from plaque along the gum line, and at that stage it is fully reversible — two weeks of careful cleaning of exactly the spots that bleed usually settles it. Gums that only bleed at a clean, after months of tartar build-up, generally settle within a day. If bleeding at home has not stopped after a fortnight of genuine effort, tell us, because that points to something below the gum line a brush cannot reach.

Yes, by SMS. It is easy to be dismissive about recall reminders, but they are the single mechanism that keeps most households on six-monthly care — almost nobody diarises a dental appointment half a year in advance. Tell us if you would rather have email, or none at all.

You pay the gap — the difference between our fee and what your fund rebates on those item numbers — and we claim the rest through HICAPS at the desk, so there are no forms and no waiting for reimbursement.
